U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #8) - Rigging?

moving on with the build....

was on and off doing this in between painting my EF-111..

rigging was done with a fine wire taken from my defunct notebook charger adapter wire.. easily controlled and looks the part.. i guess..

now i know that its hard taking photo of the riggings..

 will paint the rigging black... and still a few more raw sienna treatment needed before i can clear coat this and call it done...

ohh.. still need to find the relevant badge for the unit to make a nameplate for this build.

Back again with another round of updates... this round i'll be doing "oil-wash" on the u-boat...
i dunno if i'm doing it right but here goes..

i'll be using Oil paints "Raw Sienna" + turpentine.

mix it together and i have a wash solutions...
 the progress is as follows..

I also did a test rigging on the front of the conning tower..and also i've manage to decal the tower with the "frog" sign..

a very thin wire was used for the rigging and i think it looks ok.. :)

 i might have overdo the wash.. hmmm

before i forgot. the photo of the other side of the hull that have yet to be washed... so we can see how "clean" it was before the wash process... :)

its been a long while..

Now at the painting stage..
been busy with my Karl Morser that i didnt have time to update this...
now that the Karl is done i can get back to this sub...

ok.. manage to paint several layers of paint on the subs....
i'm still undecided on which u-boat to depict but the frog markings on the side is very nice...
so painted the lower portion of the sub with H306...

trying to get some weathering done... so i sprayed the lower hull vertically.. thus a streaking line... a very fade line can be seen vertically on the hull...

oh before that.. i read somewhere on the net that we can start weathering very early in painting.. so i tested by using water-misting-spray... spray on the hull and then straight away spray paint on it.. it produced a random spot-effect on the hull... i'm not sure it it can be seen on my photo

and then after the water dries... i spray another coat of the H306 to cover the effect a lil bit.
seems to be ok...
will try to take a better photo with my photobooth later...

note the masking for the yellow lines (should have done this earlier)

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #5) - Priming

Been busy with other stuff (mainly doing my M1126 Stryker) only manage to do a little update on the Type XXI U-boat..

A layer of Mr Surfacer should prep the surface for painting..

Will have another layer over the long weekend and hopefully can begin painting after that...

and then can start the rigging. :)

Noting much to look at as it stand today.. will try to work on some weathering during painting stage...

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #4)

last update for year 2013 :)

been on and off working on this sub and as of late mojo slowly coming back so when the mojo is high i need to hit the workbench.. so below are my progress thus far...

was torn between to put this or not but alas i opt to putting it on the sub despite it being overscale.

Next is the railing cable... and i need some help guys...
which is the most suitable for the railing cable? hopefully the photo can show the difference between the 2 wire that i have

 
The one on the left is a tiny wire strand from USB mouse whereas the other one is a fishing line..

Questions
- Should i prime the sub first before putting on the railing cable?
OR put the cable first before priming??

Another round of updates for my U-boat Type XXI..

The below was done during the last couple of nights with a very limited modelling time (work commitments eats my hobby time)

so on with the photos..

First the ladder for the side of the tower..

initially i was torn between leaving the ladder alone and make a new one.. after a bit of convincing by modelling colleague.. i guess its time to test the skill (although for small task actually )...

so using the stapler bullet + a narrow nose pliers.. i have what looks like a ladder...

so below is how it looks on the tower.. and the one above it is the original.. not yet completed and not yet superglued on the other side..

 

i guess this will do ok to replace the original steps of the ladder... will try to complete it tonight.

next the inside of the tower.. not detail at all.. just enough so that people wouldnt see the empty inside of the sub.. so i used my "creative license" and make something to actually block the empty view to the inside of the sub. so below is the result..

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #2)

This is part 2 of the WIP of my Revell U-boat Type XXI..

Decided to details a little bit of the "hydroplanes" (i updated this after my research hahaha) by adding the hydraulic to control the hydroplanes and i  make it in fixed position.. the kit supplied with a toy-like mechanism that you can posed it open or close... a NO-NO for me (at least i try to avoid it if possible hehehe)...

Next, the stabilizers.. (is it still called a rudder on sub? - no Mr Kuman its called stabilisers).. a little sink mark.. nothing major that a putty and a good sanding cant cure.. will work on the cure later..

thats a bout it for today...

hopefully i have more time in the coming nights to work on this sub..real-job is eating most of my free time this month..

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP)

My first submarine kit and i'm trying to make this as an easy build.

Kit: Revell 1/144 scale

Was in dilemma for quite sometime if i should drilled the flooding holes or not.. but finally i decided to drill out the major one as you'll see below..

only after i'm done with the drilling i realized that the work is not over... i have to create something for the inside of the holes...

And this is how it would look from the outside..

 This is not done... it looks like along way to go for me.. hopefully i didnt lost interest along the way.






Anyway.. i followed the step of another modeller (at least i try to) when he build his u-boat.. (i'll put the link here later for reference)

Will try to update this build as frequent as possible.. so please come back for more.. :D
