Updates..

The campaign ended last couple of days ago... and its already completed.. but to keep the WIP thread going.... i'll post some of my progress :)

Using the hairspray technique... i start doing more chipping on the Morser

this is addictive... looking at how the paint being chipped under the brush.. and i end-up overdoing it at some places. :D

and below are some photos i took using the photo booth i bought with my brother.. :) very significant clarity to the photo.. :lol:

UPDATES 

- as the due date draws closer so does my build...

last week manage to paint some camo on the karl. starting with the green camo as per below.

somehow i think the camera adds some light and make the camo a bit bright as what it suppose to... i need to think of a better photography setting...

And to test the hairspray technique.. i test some paint chipping on the walkway around the Morser.. also from the photo below... some rusting on the exhaust.. )

The chipping of the Hairspray looks ok to my eyes.. maybe need to scrap the paint off a little more...
and paint chipping is addictive.. might overdone a lil bit if not careful..

next will be the sandy-brown camo..

updates...

a few updates for my Karl.. after the base color... i coat the whole kit with a coat of Hairspray for the paint chipping effect.. 

and after the hairspray dries... i start with the color modulation (at least i try) on the first camo color.. the sandy yellow.

i think all this paint modulation will get covered by the subsequent layer of camo. hmm.. at least i tried the paint modulation :D

over the weekend i manage to paint the base color for the morser..

and it used a lot of paint.. luckily this is on the base color...
let see how i'm going to cover all this with some dark yellow....
 my color stock going to need restocking soon.

on to the photo...
i used the combination of a few color for these.. mainly dark grey..

Sorry if the image is a bit dark... need to somehow make a proper shooting booth for this...


i'm going to use the:
H66 - Sandy Yellow
H47 - Red Brown
H80 - Khaki Green

ohh before that.. a layer of hairspray before the sandy yellow.. for paint chipping purposes..

and also with try those Color Modulation techniques.. :)

Started this for the Armorama "Big Guns Campaign"...

so far the build have been very kind to me.. not much problem on the build and fit is also very nice..

I'm building this OOB and since the kit come with a fret of PE i'm going to use it as well..

The mandatory box art..

 and this kit is huge!! one of the biggest kit i've in my stash...

the part before surfacer.

 so far i've completed the build and already primed with surfacer 1000.

parts layout will be as above... and i'm going to be painting them separately beginning with the track, the exhaust, and then the main hull

at the end i'm hoping to be able to get this scheme on..

 big task ahead as i'm not very good at weathering stuff...

as usual.. C&C welcomed..

and the due for the Big Guns Campaign is end of March 2014... so i better hurry.... and i put all my other build on hold for the Morser

Hard Rock Cafe shotglass: How i display them.. for now..

a few days back a fellow collector asked me on how i display my Hard Rock Cafe Shotglass collection...(a puny and small collection of around 43 glasses... but its a collection right :o))

so without further ado i'll share it here...well mine is nothing fancy just a glass display cabinet (where i also display my scale models works) and just arrange it as normal..

but as you can see.. i arrange it all on the "GLASS" shelf which i think a bit risky... so i'll move all of it to the bottomest (..err i think there no such word in english.. i should have said "lowest") where it is made of wood... the thought of the glass shelf giving way and crashing with all my precious glass is so unnerving..the sound of shattering glasses.. oh my!!...

i was thinking on getting a proper display for my glass but that is another story..:)

OF "Stryker" and PE - A Trumpeter Stryker M1126" - Part 2

this is part 2 of my Stryker build...

This time around i concentrate on playing with the PE parts...and the love and hate relationship with those superglue (which makes me think that i really need to invest on the Gator Glue).

I used a PE set from Trumpeter for their stryker family....with the help of THE BUG.. i manage to fold the PE nicely (sure beats the use of metal rule as a bender) and now i know why people loved THE BUG so much.... u really cant go wrong in investing in (at least) "the bug" from The Smallshop.. it really makes you enjoy using PE (just ignore the superglue part.. still giving me nightmare).

The progress thus far is as follows...

Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta: Cityshots & Grand Opening

Now the HRC Jakarta collection is complete with the addition of the Cityshots & The Grand Opening...

A friend visited Jakarta last week and he offered to get some Hard Rock cafe Jakarta shotglass..so how can i resist..

and yesterday i received the package with 2 Hard Rock Cafe shotglasses.. the City shots and the Grand Opening....

err i thought Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta opened many years ago.. but why only now released a Grand Opening shotglass to mark the event? or they re-opened at a new location?

this i need to check further...

the Orange Circle a friend bought for me many years ago... just to share the complete Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta shot glasses so i includes it in the "group photo"

next maybe a set from Hard Rock Cafe San Francisco.. a friend is visiting it next month.. :o)

Hard Rock Cafe Osaka shotglass: recap

Did a bit of clean-up for my Hard Rock Cafe display cabinets a while back and taking some photos of my collection..

below are the glasses i have for Hard Cafe Osaka...

the one at the center a colleague bought for me i believe sometimes in 2008.. all i need now is the normal glas shot to complete the Hard Rock cafe Osaka... the 2 cityshots i'm not too sure when is the issue dated but i think the most recent one is the one on the right... i'm not a collector that need to have every new issue of the cityshots but having at least one in the collection for the related location is a must for me.. :)

I'll upload more photo of my Hard Rock Cafe shotglass from time to time... as i try to document all my collection (not that many) in a proper format...

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #5) - Priming

Been busy with other stuff (mainly doing my M1126 Stryker) only manage to do a little update on the Type XXI U-boat..

A layer of Mr Surfacer should prep the surface for painting..

Will have another layer over the long weekend and hopefully can begin painting after that...

and then can start the rigging. :)

Noting much to look at as it stand today.. will try to work on some weathering during painting stage...

Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo,Uyeno-Eki, Osaka Shotglass

Another 3 HRC glassware added to the collection..

Mid December 2013 a fellow collector's friend visited "the land of the rising-sun" - Japan and visited a few Rock Shop over there .. and the result is as follows...

3 cityshots... Tokyo, Uyeno-Eki-Tokyo, and Osaka.
all these 3 i already have the normal shots (orange circle) so this will make it complete...

enjoy the shots.. :)

ops.. i thought i have the normal shot for Uyeno-Eki... unfortunately.. i still didnt have those!!!

OF "Stryker" and PE - A Trumpeter Stryker M1126 "ICV" build Part 1

15 days in the new year 2014 and i'm starting it off with a new build from Trumpeter Stryker M1126 "ICV"

inspired to do this after i "accidentally" registered myself to a campaign in Armorama.com called "Armorama - Trumpeter Campaign"

I've long been a fan of Stryker and have acquired quite a few models of Stryker variant... and only have the courage to actually start building one of them.

I choose this because i think i should start with a "simple" vehicle just to get the feel of building the Stryker before tackling the whole collection.

The kit i'm using now is the Trumpeter 00375 M1126 Stryker "ICV". ReviewKit review by PerthMilitaryModelling + the PE Upgrade set also by Trumpeter (Review)

I begin the build with the wheels.. i'm trying to be cheap by trying to make my own sagged wheels for the stryker and the result is acceptable by using the supplied Vinyl wheel..

What i did was i cut some sprue and stuff it inside the wheel.. i did it on all 8 wheels and the final result..

 

 

Look bulgy and sagged to me.. so i think this is ok...

Next.. the turned-wheels.... always wanted to make a turned wheel for my stryker and i did it with a bit of surgery to the undercarriage.... and noted that this is still WIP so a new rod not yet installed.. :)

Will update more on the wheels once i got more progress to it.. until then...

NEXT: PE... :)

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #4)

last update for year 2013 :)

been on and off working on this sub and as of late mojo slowly coming back so when the mojo is high i need to hit the workbench.. so below are my progress thus far...

was torn between to put this or not but alas i opt to putting it on the sub despite it being overscale.

Next is the railing cable... and i need some help guys...
which is the most suitable for the railing cable? hopefully the photo can show the difference between the 2 wire that i have

 
The one on the left is a tiny wire strand from USB mouse whereas the other one is a fishing line..

Questions
- Should i prime the sub first before putting on the railing cable?
OR put the cable first before priming??

U-Boat Type XXI U-2540 (WIP #3)

Another round of updates for my U-boat Type XXI..

The below was done during the last couple of nights with a very limited modelling time (work commitments eats my hobby time)

so on with the photos..

First the ladder for the side of the tower..

initially i was torn between leaving the ladder alone and make a new one.. after a bit of convincing by modelling colleague.. i guess its time to test the skill (although for small task actually )...

so using the stapler bullet + a narrow nose pliers.. i have what looks like a ladder...

so below is how it looks on the tower.. and the one above it is the original.. not yet completed and not yet superglued on the other side..

 

i guess this will do ok to replace the original steps of the ladder... will try to complete it tonight.

next the inside of the tower.. not detail at all.. just enough so that people wouldnt see the empty inside of the sub.. so i used my "creative license" and make something to actually block the empty view to the inside of the sub. so below is the result..
